Murphree Valley Ranch

Boer Goats Fullblood

We are Danny and Jeannie Cooley and we would like to welcome you to Murphree Valley Ranch! We have we have five children. We live on a little over 100 acres of beautiful Alabama land, tucked in a small little valley were Jeannie was raised near Oneonta.

We felt that we wanted to raise something here, so we chose Boer Goats.  The original plan was to fence off a small portion and just get one buck and one doe. In January 2007, we purchased our first buck "Ziggy" from 4K Farms in Oneonta. A few weeks before we were suppose to pick up dear little "Ziggy", Danny found a gentleman in the local paper that was selling Boer Goats as well. We called the man and he insisted that we come to see his "babies".  We gave in and drove to Albertville, Alabama to meet with Mr. Hugh Burke and his Fullblooded Boers. Once we got there we saw many does that we would like to have. Once we inquired about them we were informed that he didn't want to sell just a few but the entire herd of 20 (Buck, Does, and 10 kids). He offered them to us at an amazing price and even offered to let us raise them on his land. We had quiet a discussion on the ride back home and called Mr. Burke back and made arrangements to pick up the goats. We were beyond the words, "Stressed" and "Unprepared!" Danny worked like a mad man setting up enough fencing to house the new herd.  Meanwhile, we still had to pick up Ziggy and the day before we got him home we were blessed to recieve a fullblood Great Pryneese for free.

Jeannie had never really been around goats, so when Ziggy came to our home she refused to let him outside. He had made his way through the new fencing the very first day and took us on a chase up the rocky hillside. So, the 2 1/2 month old buck slept on the bed and was more like a dog than a goat. On, March 3, 2007 we brought home the 20 goats we purchased from Mr. Burke and they took right up. It wasn't long before Ziggy melted right in and became one of them
